Four taxi drivers were given prohibition notices after their vehicles were found with defects.
The cabbies were stopped as part of an enforcement operation in Tunbridge Wells.
The borough council's licensing team, Kent Police and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) carried out the spot checks on Friday, March 1.
They checked 25 taxis during the evening.
The four who received notices will not be allowed not operate until the defects have been rectified.
Cabinet member for licensing, Cllr Paul Barrington-King, said: ‘The safety of residents and visitors using taxis in the borough is very important.
"This vehicle check was one of an on-going series that we are carrying out to ensure that vehicles licensed by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council meet the standards required."
