DISTANT generations met at Penenden Heath Bowls Club at Maidstone when 11-year-old Stephen Vanson found himself pitted against an opponent 80 years his senior.
Ted King, 92 years old in August, and young Stephen played a highly competitive end and Ted’s Penenden Heath team emerged victorious in the end.
Ted, of Vinters Park, Maidstone, only took up bowls when he retired - 30 years ago - and turns out every Saturday. Stephen plays for Maidstone Bowls Club.
Penenden Heath vice-captain Gordon Pearce said: “They were very competitive together. It was fascinating to watch.
Mr Pearce's club is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
