The Voice contender Kirsten Joy delighted party guests with a performance on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was successful in the blind audition stage of the hit BBC1 show, and joined Jessie J's team, but was eliminated in the battle stage.

She sang at a dinner at the Mercure Maidstone Hotel to mark the fifth anniversary of Curves women-only gym in Senacre Square.

It was a particularly special occasion as the gym is run by Kirsten’s mum Phillipa Gill.

Ms Gill said the fifth anniversary had vindicated her decision to invest in the franchise operation which now has some 300 members.

She said: “Women feel intimidated when they go to a conventional gym.

"Those who have had children or perhaps don’t feel confident about the way they look, wouldn’t go near a typical gym. We provide a place where they feel safe and make friends.”

Curves is a franchised business founded in the United States by Gary Heavin.

Members of Senacre Curves raise money for charity and donate groceries for good causes.
