A theatre boss behind top shows and pantomimes has been cleared of sexually assaulting a teenage girl after she refused to support the prosecution.
Jamie Wilson, who describes himself on his Twitter profile as “theatre producer, media mogul and panto geek”, went on trial last month but the jury was discharged because the alleged victim was unwell.
Mr Wilson was working as a youth leader at the Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone and employed by the council when he was alleged to have assaulted the 15-year-old girl more than a decade ago.
The 36-year-old, of Worships Hill, Sevenoaks, was not charged until April last year when he ran Magic Beans Productions, which has staged pantos including last year’s Cinderella at the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks and Aladdin at The Woodville, Gravesend.
He denied five charges of indecent assault when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court.
Prosecutor Paul Valder alleged there was a sexual relationship between Mr Wilson and the teenager.
But he “denied categorically” there had been any such sexual relationship.
After the jury was discharged, a retrial was expected to take place.
But Mr Valder told Judge Martin Joy that no further evidence would be offered against Mr Wilson.
The complainant, he said, had refused to allow medical evidence to be obtained by the prosecution to provide a report.
“She is now saying she does not wish to support the prosecution,” said Mr Valder.
It was decided, therefore, it was not in the public interest to proceed further and not guilty verdicts were entered on all charges.
