Thousands of women showed a united front against cancer when they ran, jogged and walked Maidstone’s Race for Life.

Almost 5,000 ladies of all ages wore pink with pride as they completed 10k route in Mote Park and another 4,600 cheered as they crossed the finish line of the 5k challenge.

Both events on Sunday look set to raise £370,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The annual fundraiser, which was filled with plenty of the staple fairy wings and tutus, attracted hundreds of supporters who stood in the sunshine to cheer participants as they passed through the town centre park.

The majority of those involved pounded the grassed track in memory of a loved one or in celebration of those who have beaten the disease, or are still fighting.

Emma Hyatt, head of Race for Life, said: “Cancer touches us all – it does not discriminate between a person’s age, sex or background. It is the fear that we must all face up to.

“Every step these women take at Race for Life will help to create more tomorrows for more loved ones, and every pound raised by their family and friends will help us to beat all 200 types of the disease.”
