Thousands of music-lovers are set to attend The Social Festival in Mote Park, Maidstone today

00:01, 12 September 2015

The sun has come out for one of towns biggest music events of the year.

Heavy traffic has been reported on town centre roads as thousands flock to The Social Festival in Mote Park.

Hotels around the town are fully booked as revelers travel from far and wide to attend the sell-out dance music event.

Over 10,000 will attend the festival this Saturday

It’s the third time the concert, which runs from midday to 11pm, will take place.

Last year more than 8,000 people attended the Mote Avenue venue with party-goers travelling from as far as Rome, Spain and America. Many are expected to complete similar journeys this year.

Today's gig will boast a larger crowd of 10,000 and a line-up of well known dance music DJs, including Mark Fanciulli and Jamie Jones who has previously been named number one DJ in the world by magazine Resident Advisor.

Maidstone council will be looking into any complaints made by residents. Last year 10 complaints were made about noise and five concerning litter and parking.

A team of environmental officers will be on site monitoring noise levels making sure they don’t go over the legal limit.

Taxi drivers and local businesses are expected to benefit from the influx of people and Southeastern has put on an extra service to cope with the large number of revellers travelling home to London.

Revelers are being advised to use local bus services to get between the town and the site.

Festival organisers say: “There’s never been a festival of this type on this scale in the area before.

“The town has great transport infrastructure and Kent crowds are absolutely amazing.”

There will still be access to the park, including the lake, cafe and model railway for other visitors.
