Roadworks along a main hospital route are causing “chaos” for motorists.

Three-way traffic lights have been set up in Hermitage Lane, Aylesford, and will be there for more than two weeks while a water main is put in.

The work, by Walker Construction, started yesterday (January 2) and is expected to last until Friday, January 19.

Temporary lights have been installed at the bottom of Hermitage Lane, by the entrance to McDonald’s, Aldi, Poundstretcher and Pet Hut.

As well as being a busy route between Barming and Aylesford, it’s used by ambulances and patients to get to Maidstone Hospital.

Kent County Council (KCC) has warned drivers to expect delays.

Several people have already expressed their frustration on social media.

“Someone needs to sort the traffic light phasing out sharpish. Ambulances cannot get through to hospital.”

A resident posted on Facebook: “It's going to be chaos for a couple of weeks. Hermitage Lane down to single lane at the Aldi lights.”

Another commented: “Been like this since yesterday. Traffic really bad this morning.”
