A children's charity in West Farleigh has adapted its services during the pandemic.

Usually, Dandelion Time help children who are struggling with the effects of trauma, domestic abuse and neglect.

The charity run a farm where youngsters spend time with animals and take part craft work, growing in confidence and overcoming emotional issues.

During the pandemic, Dandelion Time is supporting vulnerable children and families under pressure or feeling anxious because of coronavirus.

Carol Bridge, director of therapy and training, said: “The families have told us it is like a breath of fresh air to be in the woodlands and meadows and to feel supported again. Families are feeling reconnected.

"Children are leaving their PlayStations, opening up and talking about feelings.

"There has been big shift in behaviour, they are feeling less anxious or feeling happier about going into school.”

Dandelion Time is offering one-to-one sessions on the farm, where families care for animals and the garden as well as take part in crafts.

Families with no outside space and challenging living conditions are prioritised and takeaway food packs are offered.

Some clients are shielding and charity staff are regularly checking on them and holding virtual online sessions.

More than 70 children across the county are receiving weekly activity packs during lockdown.

The packs, distributed by staff and volunteers, include materials and guidance for crafting, cooking, and growing, such as how to make bread or how to grown an indoor herb garden.

Videos have also been uploaded to the charity's website, featuring familiar farm animals, recipes and stories for referred families.

Dandelion Time has also received funding from the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner to support children and families who have been victims of domestic abuse.
