Overturned car on the M2 between Maidstone and Gillingham halts traffic

Traffic on the M2 has been brought to a standstill after a car overturned due to a collision.

Motorists are facing delays after the crash happened on the coastbound carriageway between Junction 3 for Maidstone and Junction 4 for Gillingham.

CCTV images show dozens of cars now stuck queueing on the motorway while the incident is dealt with.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 8am today after a car overturned on the M2 coastbound between Junctions 3 and 4.

"Officers are currently in attendance along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

"Traffic is currently being held at the location whilst the driver receives medical treatment."

National Highways tweeted: "Please be patient. We'll try and get you moving as soon as possible."

As of 9.40am traffic was released, with motorists still facing delays.

The driver's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
