Maidstone: Travellers move on to Mote Park
09:00, 11 September 2017
Travellers have set up camp at a popular park used by dog walkers and families.
More than 20 caravans pitched up in Mote Park yesterday, and police called to the scene, near the leisure centre, at 4pm.
Officers arrested 21-year-old man from Molton, Yorkshire on suspicion of causing criminal damage after allegedly breaking a padlock to gain access to the site.
He has been bailed, pending further enquiries until October 20. The incursion itself is being dealt with by the landowner.
Officers from Maidstone Borough Council have visited the site, where it appeared the travellers were preparing to leave.
Further checks will be made later today.
