She’s been causing a stir on our TV screens, but actress and presenter Denise Van Outen will be keeping a lower profile as she joins hundreds of people from Kent at a charity walk next month.
Denise, who lives in the county and is appearing as Karin Smart in EastEnders on BBC1, will be stepping out for the Pink Ribbonwalk for Breast Cancer Care on Saturday, June 20, at Leeds Castle. She is an ambassador for the charity.
The busy mother to daughter Betsy may be making waves in the primetime soap, but she is also a familiar face, having been runner-up in Strictly Come Dancing in 2012 – after being partnered with East Malling-based dancer James Jordan – and also presenting shows including The Big Breakfast on Channel 4.
As part of her work as an ambassador for Breast Cancer Care, she has also organised a trek to the legendary Machu Picchu in Peru for a TV documentary, alongside four celebrity friends and six breast cancer survivors.
Lucy Johnston, UK walks manager at Breast Cancer Care said: “We are so excited. Denise has supported Breast Cancer Care since 2004 and been an ambassador of the charity for the past six years.
“This is Denise’s third Pink Ribbonwalk, but her first in Kent, so we are very excited to have her on board.”
The Pink Ribbonwalk has a five-mile route for families with children aged eight and older. For those aged 14 and older, 10 and 20-mile courses are open.
Participants must raise £100 in sponsorship and it costs £30 to register – £15 for under-18s.
There is no minimum sponsorship for under-18s. Every participant receives an event pack, a Pink Ribbonwalk T-shirt, medal, hot meal and certificate.
