A multi-vehicle crash left two people injured and caused heavy delays.

Emergency services attended incident which happened on the Sittingbourne carriageway of the A249, Detling, near Maidstone, at around 5pm.

Traffic queued from Pilgrims Way, the Detling turn off, to Chalky Road, the South Street turn off.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said the force "was called at around 5pm on Tuesday 11 May 2021 regarding a collision involving three vehicles on the Sittingbourne carriageway of the A249 near Detling.

"Officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene where a man and a woman were treated for injuries that are not described as life threatening.

"The woman was conveyed to a local hospital for further medical attention. The carriageway was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident with one lane reopening at around 6.10pm while arrangements were made to recover of the vehicles."

The fire service confirmed that a woman in her 70s had to be cut free from the car she was travelling in, after a crash with another car.

A spokesperson for the service said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident and the crews used cutting gear to remove the roof of her car to gain access to her, as she was trapped by her injuries.

"Firefighters and paramedics worked together to carefully transfer the woman into the ambulance. Crews made the scene safe."
