An investigation has been launched after a woman was found seriously injured in Maidstone town centre.

The 29-year-old was discovered with extensive facial swelling and a suspected broken nose in a Union Street car park.

She was taken to hospital for treatment after the attack, at about midnight in the early hours of Sunday.

A 31-year-old Maidstone man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and was later released on bail until December 17 pending further inquiries.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information about the assault, near the Albion Place and Sittingbourne Road junctions, to contact them.

DC Debbie Prescott, from Kent Police, said: "We know that there were a number of people in the area at the time and I'm hoping that anyone who heard anything out of the ordinary, or who saw anything suspicious, will get in touch.

"The victim is no longer in hospital, but had suffered extensive facial swelling and suspected broken nose too, so we are keen to speak to anyone who can provide any information that helps further our investigation."

Anyone with any information is asked to phone DC Prescott at Maidstone police station on 01622 604275, quoting crime reference YY/23021/13, or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
