A vet has called for cat owners to be wary after a stray was admitted with wounds from a pellet gun.

The short haired grey cat, believed to be eight-years-old, was handed into the Mote Park Veterinary Surgery, in Maidstone's Northumberland Road, on Wednesday morning.

It had a shattered pelvis and had to be put down later that day.

It is difficult to say how old the injuries are but the cat, which was handed in by an RSPCA inspector, is believed to have come from the Tovil area.

The cat had been taken to the clinic because it was feared it had been run over by a car.

It was not until an x-ray was taken that the lead pellets were found and the vets cannot say for certain that the wounds caused the cat's death.
