A man who shared three litres of vodka while celebrating a friend’s birthday was found standing in the middle of a street shouting and swearing at children.
Aigars Skudutis came to the attention of police after numerous calls about his behaviour in Union Street, Maidstone.
The 45-year-old was not only refusing to move from the carriageway, he was also shouting and swearing at strangers. When officers arrived on the scene, on June 2, he began directing abuse at them.
When he was arrested, he was so drunk, he had to be helped to sit up in the police van and then shouted at a sergeant.
Skudutis, of Upper Stone Street, was later charged with being drunk and disorderly and admitted the offence when he appeared before magistrates in Maidstone on Tuesday (August 15).
Christina Rowberry, prosecuting, said: “The police received a number of calls from the public from 2pm onwards about a drunken male who we now know is the defendant.
“He was refusing to get out of the road and shouting at members of the public.
“The police arrive at 2.36pm and he starts swearing at officers and saying: ‘What the f*** is happening’.
“He told officers he’d had three litres of vodka to drink and he was very unsteady on his feet and continued shouting and swearing directly at members of the public, including children, as well as raising his arms and pointing at people.”
Magistrates also heard Skudutis, originally from Latvia but who had lived in the UK for 15 years, had two previous convictions for being drunk and disorderly – one in 2013 and one in 2016.
Defending himself, the warehouse worker said: “It was my friend’s birthday and I drank too much.
“I drank the three litres with my friends, (not just to myself), and I should have stayed there and gone to sleep.
“I am sorry this happened and I am sorry that I am here.”
Magistrates fined him £133 for the offence and ordered he pay a victim surcharge of £53 as well as £85 costs.
