FORMER Maidstone Grammar schoolboy Angus Warner will be competing for Isis, the Oxford University reserve boat, against Cambridge's Goldie on the Thames tomorrow.
Warner, a member of Maidstone Invicta Rowing Club, will be stroking for the Dark Blues in the race which starts at 1.40pm and precedes the 148th annual encounter between the two universities at 2.10pm.
Warner, 23, weighed in this week at 15st 4lbs for the race, which is over the same four and a quarter mile Putney to Chiswick course as the main event. He started his preparations in September and recently has been training intensively with 12 times a week sessions at Wallingford and the Dorney Wood rowing lake at Eton.
There have been several warm-up races against the famous Leander Club and Imperial College, Oxford.
Warner was a member of the Great Britain coxed four crew that won the world under-23 championship in the Nations Cup in Denmark two years ago and is studying for a Masters degree at St Catherine's College.
