Warning after brick is thrown at lorry

00:00, 04 July 2003

AN ARTICULATED lorry was hit by a brick as it travelled down the A249 at Bobbing, near Sittingbourne.

No one was injured in the incident but police have described it as a "stupid and dangerous" act that could have resulted in a serious injury.

The brick did not hit the driver's window but it dented a panel on the side as it was being driven along the A249 at about 10.30pm on Friday, June 20.

Police believe it was thrown from a footbridge running over the main road. A group of about five youths was seen on the bridge just prior to the brick being thrown.

PC Pete Lowe said: "This is a stupid and dangerous act which could have tragic consequences.

"I would like to urge those responsible for this mindless act to think carefully how they would feel if someone were killed. What at the time seemed funny might result in a prison sentence for murder.

"We are taking this report extremely seriously and would ask anyone who may have witnesses the incident to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Swale police on 01795 477055 or Crime Stoppers 0800 555111.
