Grade II listed West Malling Airfield control tower in Kings Hill will soon be a Costa Coffee

The first image of what an iconic Second World War control tower will soon look like after a branch of Costa Coffee is completed has been released.
The Grade II listed West Malling Airfield control tower is the last reminder of Kings Hill’s past, but will soon change when the coffee shop is fitted.
Work started to repair the art deco-style landmark in Alexander Grove two years ago and it was revealed last month that developer Architecture Design Limited has been given the go-ahead to start fitting the shop.
There has been a mixed response to the project, with some residents claiming the change of use is inappropriate and others saying it is good to develop the building which has been empty for decades.
Speaking last month, developers confirmed that the branch, which is Kings Hill’s second, is due to open later this month although a date is yet to be confirmed.
