Former Maidstone and The Weald MP Ann Widdecombe warned "we're starting to lose our cheerfulness" as she defended wolf-whistling on Celebrity Big Brother.

Wednesday night's episode saw the 70-year-old undergo a haircut and makeover at the hands of Kardashian-bestie Malika Haqq and Made in Chelsea star Ashley James.

Pleased with her new look, took to the diary room after receiving a wolf-whistle from former Apprentice contestant Andrew Brady.

Ann Widdecombe, 70, was the first to enter the CBB house on Tuesday, January 2.

The Brexiteer took to the diary room to give her thoughts on the whistle, saying: "It's supposed to be totally sexist to wolf whistle but it isn't you know. It's a compliment."

"It's just a cheery expression of appreciation.

"We're starting to lose our cheerfulness about everything because we're so miserable about everything.

"I mean, a woman who's going along, maybe a bit down and all the rest of it and suddenly some building workers start wolf whistling - cheers her up no end."

Viewers are wondering why Ann Widdecombe was carrying a handbag during nominations.

Despite the new hair and make-up, viewers were left baffled later in the episode after cameras spotted her wearing a handbag during the live-nominations and afterwards speaking to Andrew Brady.

One viewer tweeted: "Someone please tell me why Ann got a bag inside the #CBB house like if she’s allowed to go out to Westfield and get some new clothes & makeup."

Another asked: "Why is #CBBAnn waltzing around the house with that hand bag swung over her shoulder?! Where does she think she's going? What is she carrying in there?! I need answers!"
