A cocaine user and weed smoker ended up being arrested after a police officer overheard her talking about drugs.
Trena Duff had spent “quite a lot” of her Universal Credit on drugs so it would “keep her going for the best part of the month”, a court heard.
The 39-year-old was stopped and searched in Maidstone on March 23 after her conversation was heard by a police officer.
She was found with 0.8 grams of cocaine on her and when officers searched her home they found 26.4 grams of cannabis.
Duff, of Lancashire Road, Maidstone, was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of cannabis and admitted both offences when she appeared at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on April 25.
James Nichols, prosecuting, said: “On the day in question she was overheard by a police officer talking about drugs.
“She was found with two wraps of cocaine and then officers searched her home address and 26 grams of cannabis was found.
“It was for her personal use. She has a previous conviction for drugs in 2017.”
Jagmohan Takk, defending, told the court his client had kept herself out of trouble for six years.
Mr Takk added: “She has suffered a series of bereavements, her partner, then her dog and then her step-father and her mother is seriously ill too.
“She (Duff) suffers with arthritus in her knees and has also had cancer.
“The cocaine was worth about £80 and the 26.4 grams of cannabis cost about £200 and was bought to keep her going for the best part of the month.”
Magistrates told Duff she had spent quite a lot of money on the drugs and placed her on a 12-month community order which will see her complete a nine-month drug rehabilitiation requirement and attend 10 rehab sessions.
She was also fined £50 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £114 and £85 costs.
