The first ever gala concert of the Kent and Medway Young Musicians Trust proved to be a glittering occasion.
Held in the Great Hall of Allington Castle, courtesy of castle owner Sir Robert Worcester, the audience of 120 included Sir Robert himself, the chairman of Kent County Council, Lesley Game; the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Derek Mortimer, and the Mayor of Medway, Cllr Jan Aldous, along with two previous High Sheriffs of Kent and several Deputy Lieutenants.
The event opened with a wine and canapés reception before the music began.
The Kent and Medway Young Musicians Trust provides financial support to young musicians under 25 so that they can pursue their talent. Grants of up to £500 a year are made to help with the cost of lessons, instruments, or courses.
Three of the young award winners performed on the night. They were Oliver Moh, Christian Hoddinott and Marie Harris. There were also performances from the Maidstone Singers and from Rachael Lloyd of the Royal Opera House, and from Robin Ashwell, violist for the Sacconi Quartet.
The concert was hosted by the trust's patron, the Lord-Lieutenant of Kent, The Lady Colgrain, and by the chairman of the trustees, Nancy Litten, More details about the trust can be found here.
The trust was founded in 2004.
The event raised £1,500 to support future grants.
