THE Maidstone-based club side Lashings have pulled off another cricketing coup by signing former Australia and Essex star Mark Waugh.
The 37-year-old old has agreed terms to play the entire 2003 campaign and is set to line up for Lashings against the county in the Titans of Kent Challenge scheduled for Sunday, July 20.
Lashings chairman David Folb said: “I can confirm that a deal has been done and contracts have been sent over to Australia,” said “I’m very excited because we are signing a player who played an integral role in what must be one of the best Test side’s the world has ever seen.
“I’m of no doubt that Mark would still get into any other Test side in the world other than Australia.”
The veteran of 128 Tests and 244 one-day internationals, the right-hand bat from Canterbury, near Sydney, has scored almost 26,000 runs in a first-class career spanning 353 matches.
New Zealander’s Craig McMillan and Chris Harris, who signed for the club last month, will join him in the county town where former West Indies skipper Richie Richardson will again captain the team.
