Jack Parkinson won’t let his Maidstone United critics get to him.

Parkinson has been a target for sections of Stones fans who haven’t taken to the midfielder since his move from Woking last season.

He doesn’t understand the criticism but is determined to get on with the task of helping United win promotion from the Ryman League, Premier Division.

They host Canvey Island at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday.

Parkinson, 25, said: “Nobody likes getting stick from fans but the majority are as good as gold and you have to take the rough with the smooth.

“I don’t know what I’ve done to upset certain people. Maybe they don’t like the way I play but everyone’s entitled to an opinion.

“I’ve not had it at any other club I’ve played for but I’m not going to whinge and sulk about it.

“It’s not nice when you hear things being shouted at you. You just have to try to conduct yourself professionally."

Parkinson started his career at VCD before joining Welling and then switching to Woking for an undisclosed fee in May 2012.

Parkinson played mainly in defence after moving to the Gallagher Stadium but has taken on a holding midfield role this season.

His best position has been a big talking point but he’s is happiest in midfield.

He said: “This year, the position I’m playing isn’t going to be thrills and spills. I’m there to break up play, win headers and tackles."
