Co-owner Terry Casey has praised boss Jay Saunders following Maidstone’s flying start to the season.

Saunders has built on promotion by leading United to the top of the Ryman League, Premier Division with 10 wins from 14 games and only one defeat.

Mr Casey said: “Jay has been a revelation. He’s such a strong character and he has the dressing room in his hand.

“The players all respect him and like him immensely. He’s a man of high integrity and a talented young manager.

“He ticks all the boxes. He understands the game, he understands tactics and
he understands footballers. We’re top of the league because of the quality and astuteness of Jay’s signings.

“He was determined to get Lee Worgan and Frannie Collin. He knew they would change the team and they have also helped existing players improve.

“It was a smart move bringing in Zac Attwood and Steve Watt has made a big difference. He likes to play from the back and that’s helped.”

United go to Ryman League, Premier Division rivals Wealdstone in the FA Trophy second qualifying round on Saturday.
