Tonbridge Angels chairman Steve Churcher inundated with applications for vacant manager's position at Longmead

Plenty of people have put their hands up to fill the manager’s seat at Tonbridge vacated by Tommy Warrilow last week.
So many, in fact, that Angels chairman Steve Churcher joked that it would be easier to put all 33 names in a hat and pull one out. He has no intention of doing that – he wants the right person to guide his side back into Skrill South after last month’s relegation.
Warrilow, who spent six-and-a-half years as boss, announced his resignation after Tonbridge’s relegation was confirmed following the horror 7-1 defeat at Chelmsford on Easter Monday.
He recommended a successor to Mr Churcher but the chairman said the process to find a new manager wasn’t as easy as that.
He said: “I can honestly say that I’ve been surprised by the sheer volume of the applications we received. There is no shortage of quality ones in there, either, it just goes to show how far we have come as a club in the past 10 years.”
Mr Churcher said the board was slowly working their way through all the applications and he hoped to make a decision by next weekend.
He said: “We know we have got to move quickly, but we have got to do it properly to ensure we get the right person.
“We’ll take our time to see that happens, but hopefully we’ll talk to a few people shortly and be in a position to make an announcment next week.”
