TWENTY 20 cricket, which proved such an overwhelming success on the county circuit last year, will be played by Maidstone club teams this season.

Following an initiative by Hollingbourne fixture secretary Chris Ansell, nine teams will take part in the Cavalier 20/20 League.

Headcorn, West Farleigh, East Sutton, Detling and Linton Park will play in Division One and Hollingbourne, Bearsted, Rumwood and Leybourne in Division Two.

Explained league chairman Mr Ansell: “Following the success nationally of the competition last season I wrote to 19 clubs about setting up a local league and got a good response.”

Treasurer is Andy Archer, of Detling, who said he thought the shorter format might attract players who could not spare five or six hours on a Saturday or Sunday.

The games take place in May and June with a 6pm start. Each side gets an hour and 10 minutes for their overs. The league is sponsored by Cavalier Taxis and The Swan pub, County Road, Maidstone.
