D-Day for Stones stadium
10:27, 18 November 2004
MAIDSTONE United will find out tonight if they are to receive planning permission for a stadium at Whatman Way.
Maidstone Borough Council’s planning committee are meeting at 6pm and the stadium is item two on the agenda.
The Council’s planning officers have recommended accepting the plans, provided a number of conditions are met, but Stones Chairman Paul Bowden Brown admitted he was still feeling tense before the vote.
He told Kent Online: "I'm very nervous, I got no more than half an hour's sleep last night."
Bowden Brown has worked for the past 12 years to find United a home in the county town. He is now hours away from finding out if his efforts have been successful.
If the vote goes Maidstone's way the club will then finalise the terms of the lease with the site’s owners before hopefully starting work on the ground in the new year.
If the plans are rejected Bowden Brown will consider his position, but an appeal has not been ruled out.
He told KM-fm how the club have taken the application one step at a time...
