MAIDSTONE United FC have signed VCD Athletic defender Neil Davis on a two-year contract and offered Slade Green midfielder Pedro Knight a one-year deal.

Davis played more than 120 games for VCD and is rated one of the best central defenders in the Bass Brewers Kent League by Stones manager Jim Ward.

The talented Knight scored against Maidstone in the league meeting with Slade Green at Central Park last season but he has still to make a final decision whether to rejoin Ward who he played under at Ramsgate.

“Both players are quality and will add to what is already a strong squad. It will mean more competition for places which has to be a good thing for any team,” said Ward.

Meanwhile, former Stones manager Bill Williams has agreed to work on behalf of the club as a consultant. Williams was named boss of Dr Martens side Welling last week but will continue to operate his own consultancy business which has offered football management advice to the Wings, Kingstonian and Dover.

“My involvement with Maidstone will depend on what the board want from me,” said Williams. “My understanding after two meetings is they want my advice on all matters relating to football club management and with the prospect of the new stadium this could be quite far reaching.”
