Striker Dumebi Dumaka says West Ham link will not distract him from making an impact at new club Maidstone United

Dumebi Dumaka is putting West Ham out of his mind and concentrating on performing for Maidstone.

Dumaka was linked with the Hammers during the January transfer window after scoring 23 goals for Ryman League Grays this season.

Championship side Ipswich were also rumoured to be interested, along with Fleetwood and Cambridge, but it’s Maidstone who clinched a deal for the 22-year-old striker.

Dumaka said: “I guess your name can get bandied about a lot. I just tried to carry on playing and playing well for myself, no matter what came out in the papers.

“Maidstone was a good move for me and one I’m 100% happy with. I know one or two players here and I’ve heard a lot of good things about them. If there’s anywhere I’d want to come in the league above, it would be here.”

There was no shortage of speculation but Dumaka doesn’t know whether West Ham were close to making a move.

He added: “A lot of the time it was people making me aware of rumours. For example, someone came up to my desk at work with a paper and showed it to me and that was the first time I’d heard.

“I try not to look at a lot of that stuff. I just want to play my football. I have no idea if there was genuine interest. If there was, great. If not, I’m not too fussed."
