Gillingham defender John Egan knows the team must cut out costly errors

Defender John Egan says nobody needs to be told when they’ve made a mistake.
Gills knew Paul Huntington’s second-half winner for Preston on Tuesday night was avoidable and man-of-the-match Egan feels players will always own up.
He said: “I don’t know if we got out quick enough and put pressure on the ball. It’s a ball into the back post. It seemed to be up there for ages.
“It’s down to us. It’s our concentration. We need to cut out those type of goals.
“It was very similar to the one at Rochdale and we can’t be having that.
“Players know when they’re wrong. They know when they’ve let their man go and you don’t need to tell them because it already hurts them enough.
“They do take responsibility in the dressing room and I think that’s a good thing.
“Everyone’s got to look at themselves when something goes wrong and everyone does put their hand up.”
Defeat by Preston made it six games without a win in League 1 but Egan took heart from the display.
He said: “We knew that we needed to improve our performance and in the first half especially we really took the game to Preston, who are a strong team and always hard to play against.
“With a bit of luck we could have been one or two up at the break, which would have given us a bit of momentum."
