The Mote’s James Evans has set a new record for college squash in the United States.

Evans, 20, who plays for Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, won all 38 of his matches. However, his contribution wasn’t enough to win the National Championships for top seeds Trinity, who lost out to Rochester.

Evans said: “It’s great to have the individual record but it doesn’t mean much in the context of the finals weekend.

“I didn’t even find out the record until one of my team-mates told me later that evening, which was nice as it meant that I couldn’t think about it and get nervous.

“With squash being a team sport here in the States, I would have traded in the record for us to have won the championship.”

Evans is now heading home to Barming ahead of the Select Gaming Kent Open at The Mote SC from May 22-29.
