Jacob Lambert struck twice to send Sheppey United through to the next qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The Isthmian South East side are into the Third Qualifying Round of the cup thanks to a 3-0 win over league rivals Burgess Hill Town.

Lambert’s 10th-minute opener separated the sides in the first half and he doubled their advantage with 15 minutes left.

Sheppey captain Richie Hamill settled the tie by converting an 84th-minute penalty.

Winning teams in the second qualifying round pocketed a handy £3,375 while losers at least picked up £1,125 from the FA’s prize fund - a handy boost for The Ites after they were forced to reduce the playing budget this season.

National South side Maidstone United eased to a 4-1 win over Steyning Town - a side who play three levels below them in the Southern Combination League.

Prior to the match Stones boss George Elokobi insisted there were no underdogs in the cup.

A hat-trick from Sol Wanjau-Smith helped them on their way at The Shooting Field.

Wanjau-Smith put the Stones two-up before the lower-league hosts got one back ahead of the interval. Charlie Meehan got the goal and nearly scored another soon after, keeper Lucas Covolan getting a hand to his shot and turning it over.

Maidstone scored a much-needed third early in the second half through Levi Amantchi, after a Wanjau-Smith shot was tipped onto the woodwork. A half-volley from the Stones no.9 completed his treble and put the tie beyond doubt.

Dover Athletic also overcame lower-league opponents, with a 3-2 victory against Isthmian Premier side Hastings United sending them into the next round.

An 11th-minute Iffy Allen penalty put Dover ahead and the rest of the goals were scored during an action-packed last 25 minutes.

George Nikaj netted with a header and Luke Baptiste added a third to put Dover well in control before the visitors struck twice late on, scoring an 86th-minute penalty and a second in stoppage-time.

Cray Valley took their game against Northwood to a reply, after the match ended 2-2.

It’s sure to be spicy after a post-match bust-up led to the referee dishing out a couple of red cards.

Kyrell Lisbie put the Millers infront after just five minutes but the lead didn’t last long as the hosts, who play in the Isthmian South Central league, levelled almost immediately.

Cray went ahead again midway through the first half when Freddie Parker converted Lisbie’s cross, but the home side were level again, just before the hour mark.

The two teams meet for a replay at the Artic Stadium on Tuesday night.

Tonbridge Angels were beaten 4-2 away at Haringey Borough.

Borough went ahead from the penalty spot through hat-trick hero Matthew Young. Goals for the Angels came from Jordan Greenidge and Gianni Crichlow.
