Matt Ford is looking to get his long game together for one of the busiest spells of his career.

Bearsted golfer Ford, 36, will attempt to make the Open for the first time when he attends final qualifying at Sunningdale on Tuesday.

From there he will head straight to Paris for the French Open, starting on Thursday.

After that, he’s off to Royal Aberdeen to practice for the Scottish Open which starts on July 10 and features a host of major winners, including defending champion Phil Mickelson.

Ford’s long game was exposed when he carded a 17-over-par total of 161 in missing the cut in the PGA Championship at Wentworth last month and he’s been working hard to rediscover his form.

He said: “I’ve been struggling with my long game for the last month or so but it seems to be coming back. I didn’t hit the ball well at Wentworth which was disappointing at such a great tournament. The rest of my game was good but I was having problems off the tee.”

Ford faces a battle to reach next month’s Open at Royal Liverpool. Thomas Levet is the biggest name in a 72-man field at Sunningdale, from which only three players qualify.

Ford said: “It’s an ambition of mine to play at the Open. I’ve been close before and I’m just going to go there and do my best."
