Hakan Hayrettin felt Maidstone let Billericay off the hook in their draw at the Gallagher Stadium.

The Stones created plenty of chances but failed to build on Ibrahim Olutade’s seventh-minute goal and were pegged back by Jake Robinson’s penalty.

Boss Hayrettin said: “For the amount of chances we created, and didn’t take, I think it’s two points dropped.

“I think there were numerous chances in the first half and the best two were in the second half.

“We missed so many good chances to put the game to bed and we’ve given away a penalty, and it is probably a penalty if we have a look at it.

“We can’t afford to miss so many chances and we did miss a hell of a lot of chances today.

“I have a saying, sometimes when you have your hand on the throat, you’ve got to strangle them. That’s what we’ve got to do.

“We did it against Hemel here, we closed the game off. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

“Listen, these boys have given us everything they’ve got but to create so many chances and only take one, it’s an area not of concern but disappointment for me.”

Olutade was handed his first Stones start after Scott Rendell was ruled out by injury - and showed what can do.

Hayrettin said: “I’m really pleased for him. We decided to stick with the system we’re going to play and he did ever so well and he got his rewards with his goal.”

Billericay created little but equalised midway through the second half after confusion at the back led to captain George Elokobi conceding a penalty for a challenge on Robinson.

A poor spot-kick from the ex-Stones striker squirmed under Constable and while Hayrettin felt his keeper might have saved it, he wasn’t about to blame him for the dropped points.

"It’s a soft penalty and I think he should have done better but I’ll have a look at it and assess it and have a chat with him," said Hayrettin.

"He’s gone the right way, going the right way and you’ve made contact and it isn’t a great penalty, you should have maybe done better but I’m not going to stand here and criticise Ravan because he’s done really well for us.

"It’s one long ball into the box, nothing else. I’ll have to have a look at it because speaking to my skipper he was told to leave it from a call from behind.

"Obviously he’s done that, then we’ll have to look at it carefully and make a decision.

"He would never leave those balls usually, he would contest it, but it is what it is.”
