Hakan Hayrettin bemoaned the mistakes that saw Maidstone beaten at Hungerford.
The Stones boss felt his side were on top for 75 per cent of the game but they were undone by two bad goals.
Goalkeeper Chris Lewington punched a corner into his own net for Hungerford’s first.
And when Scott Rendell lost possession in midfield, the hosts broke and added their second after Lewington and Joe Ellul went for the same ball, leaving Jake Evans with a tap-in.
Rendell pulled one back as Maidstone threw everything at Hungerford but their first National South game in more than a month ended in a 2-1 defeat.
“I can’t complain with the way we played. We made two mistakes,” said Hayrettin.
“Chrissy made a mistake, it’s an own goal, and there’s a mix-up with Chrissy and Joe there again, and it’s a tap-in.
“But for our application and the way we played, I thought we played well.
“We missed loads of chances, I think Scotty could have had a hat-trick on another day, first half.
“It’s disappointing because of the mistakes we made.
“They haven’t carved us open, they play very direct, they play everything long, we knew that and we didn’t deal with it.
“It’s just one of those with the own goal. He’s gone to punch it but it’s sort of come off his knuckles and gone in.
“Listen, Chrissy’s been fantastic for us, he’s made a mistake, and the second one I need to have a look at that in detail and identify what happened.”
Maidstone remain ninth in National South, with games in hand on the teams above them.
Bar the errors, Hayrettin was impressed with the performance given their lengthy spell out of action.
He said: “If you analyse the game we were on top for 75 per cent of the time.
“Before the first goal, and after that, Scotty Rendell’s had two or three good chances, we’ve had some good chances in the second half, we’ve pinned them in.
“The second goal was against the run of play and we’re chasing it.
“Nine times out of 10 when we’ve made changes this year it’s to get back in the game. I’ve not once had the opportunity where I’m comfortable enough to change it because we’re winning.
“But I’ve got no complaints with my boys for their effort and desire and their determination. We’ll go again. They’ll have to come to us.”
