Coach Paul Hathaway questioned Maidstone’s decision-making after their 100% record ended at rugby rivals Medway.

The London 2 South East leaders were held 14-14 in a top-of-the-table clash last weekend.

Maidstone held an eight-point advantage late in the game but were pegged back and Hathaway said: “Some of our decision-making was naive and ill-conceived. We played into their hands at times.

“It was a game we should have won. At 14-6 up, we should have been putting the ball in their half and making them play. Instead we tried to play and Medway intercepted a pass which led to their try."

Hathaway has called on his players to learn from their mistakes.

He said: “We have moved on in our tactical decision-making this season but the occasion probably got the better of a number of them last weekend in terms of the passion on the pitch from both sides, which was difficult to manage.

"We need to address the issues that were evident. We just have show a little more maturity.”

Maidstone host Sevenoaks at The Mote on Saturday.
