Jake Hill will head to next month’s British Touring Car Championship finale at Brands Hatch as one of six drivers who can win the title.
Platts Heath racer Hill, chasing a maiden BTCC crown, claimed his seventh win of the season at Silverstone and is joint top of the standings with Tom Ingram on 365 points. As long as he outscores his rivals on home turf the title will be his.
As well as victory last weekend, the West Surrey Racing-prepared Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW driver took second and fifth.
“It’s been a very good day for me,” Hill said. “I started fifth in race one and came through to finish second; a great result for me and the team that could perhaps have been even better if I’d had more hybrid available.
“In race two I stayed behind Tom Ingram for a few laps, spotted where he was weak and then made the move and got the win, which again was brilliant. I didn’t expect the results to be so good here, but the weather played a big part in it.
“In race three we started sixth and finished fifth; not too bad but the weather conditions were horrendous. We’ve had three good results and I’m super-pleased.”
Hill’s race two-win was a landmark result for WSR. The victory was their 12th of the season - the most the team have won in a single BTCC campaign. Likewise, Hill’s seventh win makes this his best season in the championship.
His path to the race one podium was eased by stablemate Colin Turkington, who qualified second and allowed Hill past early on as the Northern Irishman raced to fifth spot. Ingram, of Team Bristol Street Motors, took the chequered flag first.
Four-time series champion Turkington joined Hill on the podium in race two, with the Kent man denied a podium in race three by Josh Cook (LKQ Euro Car Parts with SYNETIQ) and Dan Cammish (NAPA Racing UK). Ingram won for his second Silverstone win of the weekend.
The season finale at Brands Hatch is on October 5-6.
