Former Maidstone midfielder Jack Paxman says he’s coming home this weekend.

Paxman will be back at the club he served for four years when Billericay visit the Gallagher on Saturday.

He’s looking forward to seeing old friends but is also keen to make a point to John Still and Hakan Hayrettin after they transfer-listed him last season.

Paxman, 25, said: “I’m very excited to be coming home. That’s what it feels like.

“Obviously I’m enjoying things at Billericay but Maidstone will always be close to me so I’m looking forward to seeing some familiar faces.

“I’m looking forward to playing at the Gallagher, too, because it’s one of the best places in non-league football, whether you’re playing for Maidstone or against them.

“Hopefully I can put on a performance and show Stilly and Hak what they could have had.

“I don’t hold any grudges - things change in football - but I like to prove anyone wrong that doubts me.

“It’ll be nice to put on a performance in front of those two in particular because they doubted me and they did get rid of me.”

Paxman describes his form this season as ‘bang-average’ but he had a great game on Tuesday night when Billericay thrashed Sutton 5-2 in an FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay.

That performance should ensure boss Jamie O’Hara keeps him in the starting XI against Maidstone.

Paxman said: “To be honest, I’ve been on the fringes of things.

“Our squad is very strong and I’ve been a bit in and out.

“Performance-wise, I haven’t been the greatest, I haven’t been particularly good at all.

“In training I’ve been unreal but in games I’ve been bang-average.

“We’ve got players like Sam Deering, Jordan Parkes, Alfie Potter and Moses Emmanuel who can play this level and higher so competition is tough. You’ve got to be on it all the time and I haven’t been.

“But I played on Tuesday night and that was probably my best game. We battered Sutton and deserved to go through.

“They all said it as well, I was probably the best player on the pitch even though Jake Robinson scored an unreal hat-trick.

“I came off after 70 minutes because I was knackered where I haven’t played much but I should play against Maidstone.

“The manager knows the situation with going back there.

“It’ll mean a lot to me and if he’s going on performances on Tuesday night, I should stay in.”
