The head of Maidstone United’s disability section took centre stage at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Lorraine Humm carried the Community Shield on to the pitch before Manchester City faced Manchester United in the traditional season curtain-raiser.

She was selected after winning the FA’s National Grassroots Keeping Football Positive Award for her tireless work as a volunteer with Maidstone United Raiders.

The Raiders celebrated their 20th anniversary this year and now have more than 200 players on their books.

Humm sat next to Sol Campbell at the awards dinner, as well as meeting other football legends including Ian Wright, Roy Keane, Martin Keown, Emily Heskey, Rachel Yankey and Faye White.

She was introduced to the 78,000 crowd at half-time of the match which Premier League champions City won 7-6 on penalties following a 1-1 draw with FA Cup winners United.

Along with the other award winners, Humm’s picture was on display down Wembley Way and her name up in lights on the giant screen outside the stadium.

“It was an honour to win the award and be invited to carry the Community Shield out,” said Humm.

“Not many people get to do that. It was a fantastic day.

“There was so much going on, it was just unbelievable.

“It was a full-on day. We went from one thing to another to another. It was absolutely magical. You couldn’t write it.”
