Maidstone Rugby Club have appointed Paul Hathaway as their new head coach.

The former Tunbridge Wells and Gravesend chief will succeed Andy Foley, who is joining Westcombe Park at the end of the season.

Chairman Jon Sargent and new head of playing Sean Charlton led the search for Foley's successor and agreed on Hathaway, who spent six years with Maidstone as a player.

Mr Sargent said: "I believe that Paul's appointment is a great coup for the club.

"With both his experience of coaching at a National League level and extensive knowledge of the Kent club scene, I have no doubt that he is the right man to further develop the squad and get the best out of our existing playing and coaching talent."

Hathaway began his coaching career at Sevenoaks, winning promotion to London 2 South and landing the Kent Cup in the late 1990s.

He spent 12 years at Tunbridge Wells before a three-year stint at National League 3 South side Gravesend, leading them to Kent Cup glory in 2011.
