A LEADING international gymnastics coach has been drafted in as a Maidstone club aims to produce an athlete capable of winning Olympic gold in 2012.
Gheorghe Blaj, one of Romania’s top national coaches, has been running training camps at the Pegasus Gymnastics Club.
Gheorghe was joined by Slovenian Marianna Bedenic, a former gymnast and professional dancer who has been working as a choreographer in the girls’ camp.
The club’s new training regime includes intensive training camps at home and abroad led by qualified coaches with Olympic experience. As well as local gymnasts, an open invitation was extended to attend the camp to elite gymasts and coaches.
This resulted in gymnasts from Poland, Malaysia and Scotland attending the sessions.
Neil Robertson, a member of the Scottish national gymnastics squad, said he was excited to find a training camp specialising in his level of work.
Gheorghe is working with Pegasus head coach Ionut Tranaburu to fine tune the training regime needed to produce an Olympian from the Maidstone club.
