DANIELLE MASTERS twice broke the course record on her way to victory in the Kent Ladies Golf Championship at Prince’s at Sandwich.

The 19-year-old who lives in Bearsted, near Maidstone, lowered the record at the course where she was a junior with a magnificent five-under-par 70 in the morning qualifying round and then shot a 69 in the afternoon.

Masters, who also won the title in 2000, was 14 shots ahead of the nearest qualifier, 13-year-old Danielle Gibb, of Rochester & Cobham, as she entered the four rounds of match play.

In the first she beat Lucy Galbraith (Sundridge Park) 5&4 and then accounted for Margaret McGuirk (Prince’s) one up to reach the last four. Helen Batt (Ashford) was beaten by a similar score in the semi-final and in the final Masters proved too good for Anne Wheble (Dartford), winning 5&4.

It was Wheble’s fifth appearance in the final and she beat defending champion Nicola Timmins (Sene Valley) 6&5 in the semi-finals.

Masters is a member at Bearsted and Rochester and Cobham and has represented England under-21s, Kent women and girls.
