New Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm wants answers on contract offers sooner rather than later.

Experienced defender Jon Heath is the first player to commit his future to relegated Angels and McKimm, who was announced as Tommy Warrilow’s successor at the end of last week, said: “I’ve been speaking to players and offering deals but if they don’t sign up I’m starting from scratch.

“I believe they’re good deals, I think it’s more the level that might be the issue. When you’ve played at a higher level, sometimes it’s hard to drop down.

“Any footballer who has a bit about them wants to play at the highest level they can, which is understandable. There’ll be no animosity if people turn down offers and decide to move on.

“I spoke to the players on Monday and asked them to get back to me as soon as possible. There will be a time when the offer won’t be there any more."

Former Margate and Sutton coach McKimm wants to challenge for a Ryman League, Premier Division play-off place next season and is looking to play attacking football.

He said: “I’m trying to build a squad that’s competitive. I know there’s some strong sides in the Ryman Premier and it won’t be easy to get in the top five, but we’ll give it our best shot."
