THE Under-13 cricket side from The Mote in Maidstone will represent Kent in the final stages of this month’s ECB Under-13 National Club Championships for the Ken Barrington Cup.
The Mote won the right to represent the county by winning the Kent qualifiers played under threatening skies at the University of Kent in Canterbury.
Drawn against Addington in the semi-final, The Mote restricted their opponents to 56 from 20 overs and duly reached their target with nine wickets and overs to spare.
The final against Bromley proved a closely fought affair, with Bromley scoring 92 off their 20 overs and Mote newcomer Alistair Clarke taking three wickets in one over.
The county town-club were given a steady start to their innings and, despite the early loss of Mat Coles, skipper Alex Fordham and Tom Lane saw their side to victory with a mature partnership that led to victory with just four balls to spare.
The Mote will now go on to represent Kent in the southern regional finals against either Sussex or Middlesex at Finchampstead in Berkshire on July 23. If they win they will qualify for the National Final in August.
Colts manager at The Mote Roger Boorman said: "I am really proud of what the boys have achieved, and I am especially pleased for the Under-13 manager Steve Merwood, who has really got the best out of them.
"Let’s hope for a another good performance on July 23."
