Maidstone keeper Lee Worgan has signed a new long-term contract.

The highly-rated 32-year-old has agreed to stay at the Gallagher Stadium for two more seasons, taking him through to the summer of 2018.

Stones boss Jay Saunders said: "Lee has been really important to us. He is the best keeper in our league and I don't think there are any many better keepers in the league above.

"He has been outstanding since he has been here and is a big part of what we've done.

"If he left in the summer then he would have been difficult to replace.

"It gives me good peace of mind knowing that we've got him here for the next couple of seasons."

Saunders also revealed he is in talks with other members of his squad about new deals, having already agreed terms with striker Alex Akrofi last month.

"It's a case of rewarding the players when they have done well for us," added Saunders.

"We're trying to get a few other players tied down as well. I know that if Lee had been out of contract in the summer then there would have been plenty of interest.

"He is well respected at the club and we've made him club captain recently which speaks volume about how much we think of him.

"He is my goalkeeping coach as well and as long as I am here I want to have him in my side, and as part of the coaching set-up after that time as well."
