John Still felt Maidstone were lacking in the final third against Eastbourne on Tuesday night.

United's head of football saw progress in other areas but with Justin Amaluzor, Jake Embery and Jonny Edwards all out injured, it ended 0-0.

Still said: "You know what, I think we've made a bit of progress.

"I thought we were reasonably compact tonight - that side of our game's coming together.

"The work rate was phenomenal but the final third's not quite there.

"We're without Jake and Jonny and Justin and we haven't got a massive squad.

"We started with Ibby Akanbi, who's still learning his trade - he worked socks off - and the other Ibby (Olutade), we wanted to bring him on slowly if I'm being honest, so our forward play wasn't as sharp as we'd like it.

"It isn't an excuse but Justin can come up with a little bit of magic, we believe Embery is goalscorer, we really do, and Jonny did very well in the first game.

"We got some good movement in there but attacking players are a premium anywhere and I think we probably suffered a little bit for that but I've no problems and no complaints about our application and our effort and we defended very well.

"The middle 20 minutes of that second half I thought we had the ascendancy strongly, I actually thought a goal would come.

"We looked tighter, we looked a little bit more like we could counter-attack from deep positions because we defended ever so well and were picking up our own clearances. I thought we countered quite well."
