Maidstone have finished fourth in National League South after thumping Hampton & Richmond.

They’ll host Aveley in a play-off eliminator on Wednesday night after moving up a place on the final day of the regular season.

Reiss Greenidge’s second-minute opener was cancelled out by Dean Inman, but Sam Corne restored the lead with a superb volley.

Corne struck again from the penalty spot before Matt Rush and a stunning Matt Bentley strike moved the Stones clear.

Bentley’s effort was Maidstone’s 400th league goal at the Gallagher Stadium.

Maidstone, beaten 5-2 when the sides met in November, made a dream start to the return fixture.

Harry Kyprianou had already seen a shot blocked, after being teed up by Sol Wanjau-Smith, by the time they took the lead.

There were still only 67 seconds on the clock when Corne played the ball to the back post for Greenidge to head home.

Lucas Covolan was sharply off his line to deny Ben Seymour in a one-on-one as Hampton had their first opening.

They levelled from the resultant Sam Deadfield corner, however, with Inman stooping in the six-yard box in the 17th minute.

Kyprianou fired over from Rush’s lay-off soon afterwards while Mason Bloomfield thumped over when played in by George Hunt at the other end.

Maidstone regained the lead a minute before half-time with Corne’s brilliant strike - his 12th goal of the season.

United worked the ball well in the final third before Tanga’s right-wing cross was met on the volley by the Stones skipper.

A multiple-pass move in added time ended with another Tanga cross but it was just too high for Wanjau-Smith as he went for a spectacular overhead kick.

Maidstone gave themselves breathing space with their third goal in the 55th minute.

Wanjau-Smith won his ninth penalty of the season, tripped by Sam Dreyer, and Corne scored his second of the afternoon with a confident finish past Adam Desbois.

Tanga rolled the ball into a good area for Wanjau-Smith, whose shot was blocked, before Maidstone went 4-1 up on 73 minutes.

Michael Adu-Poku, just on as a substitute, was the provider as Rush turned the ball in from a yard out.

Bentley forced a good save and Adu-Poku was denied by the legs of Desbois as Maidstone went for more goals.

Number five arrived eight minutes from time and it was probably the best of the lot as Bentley’s 25-yard half-volley flew past Desbois.

It was some way to bring up 400 league goals since the stadium opened in 2012.

Defeat saw Hampton drop out of the top seven.
