Dan Wishart scored twice as Maidstone thrashed Chelmsford at the Gallagher.

Wishart started and finished the rout while Justin Amaluzor and substitute Ibby Akanbi also struck as the Stones claimed their first home win of the season.

Victory also makes it five games unbeaten for John Still and Hakan Hayrettin’s rapidly improving side.

United were unchanged from Saturday’s win at Concord with Jonny Edwards - who had been a doubt - fit to play.

But a second game in three days would take its toll on George Elokobi when he went down feeling his hamstring late in the first half.

Maidstone made a lightning start, taking the lead in just the fourth minute.

Amaluzor was the provider, curling in a cracking cross to the far post where Wishart - with no one near him - volleyed home.

Good work down the left from Wishart soon after saw him combine with Noah Chesmain whose cross was met by Edwards but Carl Pentney made a decent save from the header.

Saidou Khan had an effort blocked by Adrian Cascaval as Maidstone threatened again but seconds later it took an excellent challenge by Ryan Johnson to stop Robbie Simpson as he went through on goal.

Matt McClure fired wide after a poor City clearance and Johnson headed wide from Sam Corne’s corner.

There was a blow for the Stones a minute before the break when inspirational skipper Elokobi had to go off.

Lewis Knight came on for his debut but City levelled at the end of three added minutes when Simpson used his body to hold off the substitute before rolling the ball into the bottom corner.

Anthony Church headed over from Ollie Muldoon’s free-kick in the opening stages of the second half.

There was a better chance for City just before the hour mark when Cole missed his punch from Knott’s corner.

The ball dropped to Anthony Church a few yards out but Chesmain denied him on the goalline.

Having survived that, Maidstone regained the lead in the 61st minute.

Cole’s goal-kick was headed down by McClure to Amaluzor who cut inside and found the bottom corner with little space to aim for.

Pentney got down well to deny Corne, who’d been teed up by substitute Nana Kyei, as Maidstone went for a third.

They didn’t have long to wait, extending their lead in the 68th minute.

Chesmain’s deep corner was headed back across goal by Johnson and substitute Akanbi turned it home at the post just four minutes after coming on.

There were further chances for Maidstone with another Corne strike, after a good run from Wishart, kept out, then Amaluzor found Akanbi, who missed when it was possibly easier to score.

Maidstone made it four in the 85th minute with Wishart’s second of the afternoon, a magnificent strike from just outside the area which flew into the corner.
