Luke Rooney inspired Maidstone United to a 3-0 home win over Cray Wanderers on Tuesday night.
The former Gillingham and Swindon man showed his class with an outstanding performance in central midfield.
He was desperate to cap his efforts with a goal but was denied the chance to take an injury-time penalty when Zac Attwood pulled rank to complete United's victory.
Maidstone, who remain top of the Ryman League Premier Division on goal difference, dominated from start to finish and could easily have eclipsed the seven goals they put past Hampton & Richmond at the end of last month.
Frannie Collin hit the post with a first-half penalty and United missed a stack of golden chances after the break, with Alex Brown, Attwood, Jack Parkinson, Kaiyne Woolery and Alex Flisher among those either denied or missing the target.
Maidstone opened the scoring on 51 minutes when Flisher drove home the loose ball after Collin and Flisher tried to get on the end of Brown's cross.
Parkinson's late run forward at a Rooney free-kick - he initially stayed on the halfway line - was rewarded when he volleyed home Stones' second from Collin's cross after 77 minutes.
Rooney was brought down as Maidstone were awarded their second penalty of the night.
He jumped to his feet and and pleaded with Attwood to take the spot-kick.
Parkinson eventually stepped in to settle the debate, with Attwood beating Darren Behcet from the spot.
Maidstone: Worgan, Cox, Mills, Brown (Robertson 78mins), Sobers, Rooney, Woolery (Sullivan 87mins), J Parkinson, Attwood, Collin (Harris 83mins), Flisher. Subs not used: D Parkinson, Godmon.
Attendance: 1,292
