What a story it would be if guest striker Mark Lovell fired Maidstone into the FA Cup third round.

Lovell only signed forms at United to keep his fitness up after time away football, helping out in midweek Kent Senior Cup and League Cup games while Jay Saunders rested senior players.

Now he’s been named in the squad for the second-round tie at Wrexham today (5.30pm).

He’s set to start on the bench at the Racecourse Ground and if he comes on and scores the winner, he’ll be making headlines everywhere.

Lovell said: “It’s the FA Cup and these things do cross your mind. Maybe I’ll get on and nick the winner.

“These little stories do come up every now and again.

“It will be my first Saturday game and there’s no better time to be involved.

“Bromley had mainly their first team out in the Kent Senior Cup, which was a good test, and we got good wins in the League Cup against Cray and Herne Bay but the Wrexham game will be completely different, as FA Cup ties always are.

“Even though they’re a couple of levels above us, the cup brings teams on to the same level and in 90 minutes anything could happen.

“With the way the lads are playing and the confidence at the club, we’re going there to give it a good go.”
